I'll admit, I'm a
long-time Spurs fan, and they've been the beneficiary of some questionable calls, to be sure. As did Chicago, the Lakers, Boston, etc, etc. Today's officiating is not up to snuff, and that may be a compliment. Basically it is lacking. But I certainly don't profess to be any better at officiating from the comfort of my great room as they are in real time. The game is fast, players are big and fast. It's not an easy job.
That said, any coach worth his salt would tell his team to identify how the came is being called, and inform his players to dictate their style of play accordingly. Does SA cry too much? I have no idea what "too much" is, but, yes, they do tend to question their fouls a lot sometimes. Do they flop? Yes, but so do Terry, Dirk, Nash, and any good defensive player in hopes of receiving the call in their favor. Like it or not, it's a major part of the game. The players are simply playing the defensive-latitude cards the league has dealt them, that's why I usually don't publicly bitch about officiating. But as much as SA may harp on officiating that goes against them, more times than not they (through stellar execution) put themselves in position to make the big play and win championships through hard, fair play. Yesterday was one such legendary example. Win or lose, they are excellent representatives for the league.
